THE LONGBRANCH SALOON PRESENTS: KNIFEY SPOONIE, THE ROLLING BLACKOUTS, AND THE ALBEES

by Knifey Spoonie
(Bloomington, IN, USA)

On Tuesday, March 16th, The Longbranch Saloon will host the live music of Knifey Spoonie, The Rolling Blackouts, and The Albees. The show will begin at 10:00 PM; must be 21 years of age or older to attend. The show will feature Bloomington, Indiana bands Knifey Spoonie and The Rolling Blackouts as they tour Kentucky and Tennessee. Admission is $3, and merchandise and music will be on sale from each band.

With a band name taken from a Simpsons episode, Knifey Spoonie capture the jolly fun and charisma of the animated cartoon, minus the legions of fans. While other bands may look serious and contemplative on stage, KS sweat and drool. The band’s energy has been a driving force for their busy touring schedules, with three tours under their belt within the last year. With bits of jazz, post-punk, hard rock, and southern boogie all put together, Knifey Spoonie is THE choice for the ADD music fan.

The Rolling Blackouts are a band not afraid to dabble with varying dynamics and lengthy build-ups. Bloomington natives, The Rolling Blackouts have a lackadaisical, airy, yet poppy sound that hints to bits of tension and anxiety. The “The Ever Elusive Giant Squid” is a highlight, with its forceful, driving verses giving way to melancholy and atmospheric layers, showcasing the band’s ability to build energy and explode furiously.

Knoxville’s own The Albees are pop music with an eerie, electronic, almost mechanic, edge. Formed in early 2009, the group breeds a hybrid of anxious beauty through richly sonic vocal textures and staccato guitar pieces. “Loose Lisp” connects immediately with its breathy tensions, as lyrics like, “Always late for the weekends, I'm making bite marks in the bed, still got me shaking, from what you said,” only add to the creepy, yet gorgeous, sound dynamics.

The Longbranch Saloon is a 21+ music venue, hosting local and touring bands regularly. As a locals’ only dive with a world class vibe, The Longbranch Saloon is the place to come early, come often, and stay late.
