Unveiling the Hope Clock in Downtown Knoxville
There was a clock on Gay Street which was a landmark in Downtown Knoxville since the turn of the last century. Then it was gone, and downtown Knoxvillians took it upon themselves to install a new and improved clock, which is about to be unveiled.
George Middlebrooks, a Senior Designer at Morris Creative Group (which donated their talent to promote the Hope Clock event), briefly explained the story behind the December 7th ceremony to celebrate the new downtown landmark.
"The original clock was owned by Kimball's Jewelers, and when they opened their new shop on Bearden Hill a couple years ago, they took the clock with them.
"Since the original clock had been such a fixture of downtown, it was quickly decided that it should be replaced. So a group of downtown business-people started a fundraising effort in late 2005 to purchase a new one, which is to be donated to the city."
Come see the unveiling and stay to watch the Downtown Parade - you'll have a great view!
