South Knoxville Restaurants
South Knoxville Restaurants have their own unique style and flare for good food. The area called South Knoxville is as cool as the underside of a pillow. I live in South Knox (that, unfortunately, has nothing to do with how cool it is!), and love the location, old trees, and people who live here.
The quirky underdog motif of South Knox and the admirable variety of people it attracts have a big influence on the restaurants below that meet my criteria for honorable mention. They are:
King Tut's Grill, 4132 Martin Mill Pke KTG is Egyptian-American quisine. Moe, the proprietor, is a real charmer. The food is good, and the atmosphere is crazy. Make a reservation, bring your party hat and a lot of good friends. It will be a night to remember! Ye Olde Steak House, 6838 Chapman Hwy As the name suggests, this is a meat and potatos establishment. It happens to be a very good one that, for more than a generation, has been attracting Knoxvillians of a mind for some good beef. I grew up 40 minutes west of Knoxville, and remember eating here as a boy with my family on special occasions. It's that kind of place. Bayou Bay Seafood House, 7117 Chapman Hwy The best I can tell, this is the most authentic Cajun food in Knoxville. Bayou Bay offers alligator, frog legs, and all other kinds of Cajun fixins. Ooo-eee, that's good! I hope there will be more M&P South Knoxville restaurants to come soon. We'll see. In the mean time, I do have one more recommendation. This is what I call an "I think" recommendation, because I don't know all the skinny details of this place. It's a gas station on Chapman Highway, the first one on the right after crossing the Tennessee from downtown. "I think" it's owned by two sisters who make great baklava. I'm sorry to say I haven't made a point to check them out yet. But I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I do!
