Smoky Mountain Shopping is just an hour away from Knoxville, and offers dozens of varied Mom and Pop Specialty Shops, Outdoor Adventure Outfitters for those interested in hiking, camping, fishing, etc., and many unique Arts and Crafts Shops and Galleries.
There’s a great deal more than I’ll be able to cover on this page, but I hope to share with you some highlights that you and your shopping buddies can enjoy. It’s easier to get around by walking than it is to find parking everywhere, so be sure to wear your comfortable shoes, and use the resources on this page to guide you to the Smoky Mountain shopping destinations of interest to you. You’ll still have lots of time afterwards to spend in the beautiful Smokies. Smoky Mountain Shopping: Gatlinburg’s Mom and Pop ShopsThere are many specialty shops in Gatlinburg; I’ve selected variety for you that represents both the heritage and fun entrepreneurial spirit of this Smoky Mountain town. Ready! Set! SHOP! O2 Bead Experience 865-430-9115 The “O2” of this shop’s name refers to the oxygen bar inside (the only one I’m aware of in Gatlinburg). After filling up the old oxygen tanks, you can enjoy shopping for a variety of fine beads and semi-precious stones, custom jewelry, and more. A&G Fashion 865-430-3649 A&G offers an admirable variety of fun and fashionable clothing for men, women and children. They stay up to date with the latest designs, and offer their clothing at discount prices so you can dress like a million bucks and still afford to eat at one of Gatlinburg’s best restaurants that evening. A Kid’s Store 865-436-5431 This is where my wife and I go to shop to buy gifts for children of our friends and families. They offer many different kinds of children’s toys, gifts, games, puzzles, puppets…it’s enough to make you wish you were a kid again! Armour House 865-430-2101 “A Touch of the Old South” is the slogan for Armour House. They offer American Civil War and Gone with the Wind souvenirs and memorabilia. It’s an unique establishment that’s worth a stop if you enjoy Southern history. Aunt Mahalia’s Candies 865-436-7992 Aunt Mahalia’s was the original candy shop in Gatlinburg. They make their candies in a glass-enclosed kitchen. I loved this store when I was a boy; it’s always a sure bet to see a dozen or more kids (of all ages) in Aunt Mahalia’s with big grins on their faces as they watch the candy being made. The Garden Gate 865-436-9014 This Smoky Mountain shopping gift store for nature lovers offers items for gardeners and bird watchers, among other things. If you enjoy items that artfully pay homage to the bounty of nature, you’ll probably leave The Garden Gate with a shopping bag full of unique gifts and items for your own home. The Hayloft 865-436-6944 I like The Hayloft because they have cowboy boots and hats to cater to those of a Country & Western mind; motorcycle boots, chaps and jackets for Harley lovers; and moccasins, belts and other items for everyone in between. You never know who you’ll see in this store! The Jelly Jar 865-436-5849 Though I grew up in East Tennessee from the age of 3 months on, my parents are from D.C. and Philadelphia, so Mom didn’t have the fixins for making homemade jellies, jams, pickles, etc. I make up for lost time by getting a sack of these homemade goodies from the Jelly Jar every chance I get. Oh, my, but they’re good! Lloyd’s of Gatlinburg 865-436-7997 I confess: I just love the name of this store! Though you won’t sip champagne while you bid on a Picasso at Gatlinburg location of this “of London” namesake, you’ll find beautiful rustic Appalachian-style furniture, accessories, quilts, lace and other gift items in this Smoky Mountain shopping gem. Magnet O World 865-430-9022 This is one of those “fun entrepreneurial spirit” stores I mentioned above. You just have to see the amazing selection of magnets in this store to believe it. There are over 100,000 different items – all of them magnets – from which to choose. From fun to decorative to inspiring, you’ll find it here. Mountain Woodcarvers 865-436-5627 Whether you want tools for making your own wood carvings, or you just want to buy hand-crafted wood arts & crafts, this store can satisfy your wood carving cravings. Wood fireplace mantels, wildlife carvings and other gift items make this a fun stop I wood be remiss not to mention! Their inventory offers a spectrum of clothing that invokes the fun of Gatlinburg and beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Pepper Palace 865-436-5577 Do you often find yourself wiping the sweat from your brow while you eat?
