As the host and program director for Writer's Block, I've listened to, aired and fallen in love with far too many local artists to ever have a favorite.
Fact is, our little 'burg' has a spectacularly diverse music scene and have always had stellar artists amongst us. We have it all: rock, blues, celtic, americana, emo, bluegrass, jazz, swing and a dynamite symphony orchestra.
Best collective pot I can toss it all into, is that picture perfect genre' of "Knoxville Music." Knoxville has a place in musical history, y'all. And can you imagine the whine of those who only WISH they'd seen Chet Atkins picking live, down on Gay Street back in the day?
Don't be a whiner. Support it all. Get out there to live performances whenever possible and have a special collection of cds from local folks. Course, if you want to hear some uber great Homecookin Artists, we always feature at least one during every Writer's Block broadcast. I'm a home grown Knoxville girl...and as long as I have an access to the airwaves, I'll forever shout the talents of our own.
Course, I'm an indie singer songwriter, too, and let me tell you, we need YOU to survive. Don't only WISH you had seen the 'next big thaing' to come out of the K-Town Music Scene.
GO to the shows. BUY the cds and DON'T bootleg by copying the music of independent artists and passing it out to friends. Lemme hear you say it, loud and proud...KNOX ROX, KNOX ROX, KNOX ROX! (frantic waving and dancing in the streets)
