Rockin' at the Corner Lounge

by John
(Knoxville)

One of my favorite Knoxville rock clubs is the Corner Lounge. It's located on Central Avenue in historic Old North Knoxville.

Owner Ed Cort took on the Corner Lounge after it had been closed for several years. Originally, it was home to one of the most popular piano bars in Knoxville.

Cort's renovation of the Corner has turned out to be a rejuvenating catalyst for the block where the Corner is located. Other people have followed his lead by renovating old buildings there and opening new businesses - leading to the small enclave of businesses being called 'Old City North'.

But all of that is just icing on the cake. The cool thing about the Corner Lounge is that Ed Cort made it his policy from the start to give local bands a chance. If they wanted to play, he let them.

Since those opening days, the competition has gotten a good bit stronger to be able to play there, but it's still a club where good local bands can get a show.

And the atmosphere is exactly what it should be in a good rock club. Cozy, dark, cheap beer, posters of good rock bands everywhere...

Rockin'.

If you haven't been to the Corner Lounge yet, and you like live rock music, make a point of checking it out.

You won't be disappointed!

Thanks for the article, John!

I have to agree with you: The Corner Lounge is a great venue for rock music.

I've played there a couple times myself, and have seen numerous bands there. It's a very intimate place to play and watch music.
