Robinella
by Lori Moradi
It is apparent that growing up in Tennessee has influenced Robin Ella Tipton’s music.
Robinella started by singing in church and gradually worked her way up to a solo album. In the late 1990s, she founded Robinella and the CCstringband with her now ex-husband, the mandolin master Cruz Contreras.
Now in post-Cruz mode, Robinella is as powerful musically as ever - and we hear that Cruz has just joined a band of all-star Knoxville Americana musicians. We're sad to see the two split up, but happy that they're both still contributing to the Knoxville music scene!
Solace for the Lonely, (2006). The title song sounds similar to jazz with smooth mellow undertones. In her song, “Down the Mountain” honky tonk and blue grass influences are readily apparent. She has a good range and variety, and a something for everyone approach. Check her out at: Robinella.com for lyrics, shows, schedules, and more information.
