Knoxville Restaurant Review: Taj Fine Indian Dining

My experience at Taj was a remarkably delicious experience. Newly opened, upscale, full bar and with rich decor, Taj is a must-try Indian restaurant. Probably the only restaurant in 100 miles or more that offers both North Indian and South Indian dishes.

LOCATED AT 8520 KINSTON PIKE (AT WALKER SPRINGS).

Yesterday my family and i ate dinner at taj,we ordered chicken tandoori and jalfrezi..it was spicy to my taste but it was simply excellent.and service speedy though it took little more time than other resataurants but still it was spedy as it takes time to cook .i can recommend anyone to this restaurant

Taj is by far the best Restaurant in Knoxville! My family and I went there one Frida and we found the restaurant to be very beautiful and simple. The place was packed so the wait for a table was a few minutes longer than usual. The food was amazing! We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Malai Cofta, Shrimp Jalfrazi and Veg Biryani. All were extraordinary! We will definetly be going back. Best Indian Food in town!!

Last Night i visited Taj for dinner we were four and ordered for tandoori chicken which was spicy to my taste but it was aperfect indian spicy and new cuisine to me===overall it was a good experience to be there especially if we talk about some spicy INDIAN cuisine i can reccomend this restaurant to any one its replete with huge collection of wine and beverages

I went to Taj the weekend that it opened and was really impressed. The food was excellent despite the waitress not knowing anything about the dishes. I have since had several take outs. my husband stated that he preferred another Indian Restaurant in Knoxville and until last night I was not in agreement. I had the most awful meal last night.The food was very greasy and heavy. I had a vegetarian jalfrezi which was clearly made from a bag of frozen vegetables with a few onions thrown in. It's the same dish I have everytime but last night it was positively awful. I doubt I will be going back anytime soon and will go back to being a faithful diner at Sitar.

We tried Taj Indian restaurant for the first time today for a late Sunday lunch.I was worried that the atmosphere might not be as pleasant as the food because of some concerns about the service.Our experience was completely favorable.The restaurant was very attractive without being intimidating and the service we received could not have been better. Now the really important part; the food. So good! I loved it and will probably be back next weekend.

I ate at Taj about 1 month ago and love it. The service was speedy and the server was polite. The building was neat and clean and the decor was upscale. The food was excellent with large servings. I would definitely return for another superb dining experience.

This restaurant is great... Ive only tried Indian food a few times, too spicy for my taste, but my friends wanted to try this place out. Boy i was shocked. The food was excellent. Service was good and we fully enjoyed our visit to Taj. I would recommend Taj to anyone that wants to try Indain food.

September 2, 2008 - Several weeks ago I came to Knoxville from Los Angeles on business and ate at lunch at Taj. I found the atmosphere, staff, and food to be so excellent that a couple of days later, I ate dinner there as well. And, again, the atmosphere, staff, and food were fabulous. The next time that I am in Knoxville, I will absolutely eat at Taj.

I begged my friend to try Taj with me. She relented, after saying "no" several times. I am sure she finally agreed because I said I would pay (using a 50% off coupon). When we pulled into the parking lot at 8p on a Wednesday. There were four cars parked in front. However, we were the only patrons upon entering. FYI: It is an old manager's trick to park the employee cars up front as to imply business from the street. Two more patrons enterd fifteen minutes later which made us feel a little less uncomfortable. We ordered tandoori chicken and shrimp. Very, very dry and tough. It was not freshly made. One might speculate that it was left over from the lunch buffet and reheated in the microwave. Service was not great. Twice, my glass of tea was left empty longer than a customer should expect to wait (especially when there are only four customers in the building). Our waitress was eating her meal at another table in between serving us which added to our irratation. My last gripe is that we were over charged on everything! 50 cents was added to every item over what was listed on the menu, totaling $2.50 which I found dishonest. My friend now has the rights to where we eat out at for a while. Taj is not worth the visit even with the 50% discount.
