Knoxville Recycling Suggestion: all residential apt communities should have recycling programs

by jay samson
(knoxville tn)

I live in a apartment community in the west Knoxville area, and its a very nice place, its owned by a large company who has other apartment communities in the Knoxville area. Mine is called Walkers Crossing.

I have recently moved here to Knoxville from Florida, I accepted employment here in the Knoxville area and soon my family will join me, until then, and when I sell my home in Florida, I will live in my new apartment in Walkers Crossing.

Upon moving in, my first question was "how do I dispose of my recycling items?" I was surprised to find that we arnt encouraged to seperate our items and place them in seperate bins for collection. My community dont recycle!!

Dont get me wrong, they have a large container for cardboard and paper, but all the residents throw all gabage in one bin and all the cans, plastic bottles, paper, are all in the same bags with the trash!.. I need help providing each building with seperate bins for plastic/glass items, and paper... We need to seperate our recycling items so they can be picked up seperate...

Thats my story and this is only the first chapter, please help me finish it by helping me turn my community green!

Good recycling suggestion - here's an answer!
by: Mac B

Hi Jay,
Thanks for posting your recycling suggestion to KnoxvilleBusiness.com. As a customer of Waste Connections' curbside residential recycling service, I highly encourage you to check them out!

As a city of Knoxville resident, when you move into a home, you can sign up for less than $10 per month, and you receive a 95 gallon single-stream recycling bin that you just wheel out to the curb every 2 weeks. It's great!

Not having to separate out the different recycling items makes for so much easier recycling for everyone, and $10 per month (a touch less, actually, as I mentioned) is so very worth it when you factor in your time and gas money to take your recycling to where ever your local recycling center is.

I hope this helps!
