Newspapers in the Knoxville Area

There are multiple papers offering local news, but there is only one complete-coverage daily newspaper -- the Knoxville News-Sentinel. The News-Sentinel is owned by Scripps, which holds multiple major news outlets around the Nation, as well as cable TV channels HGTV, DIY, Food Network, and others.

Other weekly and bi-weekly papers of note in the Knoxville market include:

  • Metro Pulse is a local arts and culture rag that was fairly edgy in its heyday, and which is now also owned by Scripps, so has toned down a bit. They have consistently good music and arts coverage, and a fantastic Knoxville historian on staff, Jack Neely, who is considered by many to be the best asset of the paper.
  • The Daily Beacon is UTK's daily student newspaper. As with any student newspaper, it has its ups and downs, but on the whole, is worth picking up when you're on campus.
  • The Fountain City Focus features news and articles about Fountain City, the historic North Knoxville suburb now annexed by Knoxville.
  • The Halls Shopper is the Halls community's newspaper. Like Fountain City, it's in North Knoxville.
  • The Daily Times is the Blount County newspaper. It focuses primarily on Maryville and Alcoa, the two largest cities in the adjacent County.
  • The Oak Ridger is a local paper that often has national and international news related to technology and research at Oak Ridge National Labs.
