Kidstorming: Business Ideas for Young Folks

Everyone thinks of lemonade stands and mowing lawns, but Knoxville Kidstorming will brainstorm ideas for kids to make money in new and creative ways.
The holidays are coming and this is a perfect opportunity to make some money. Many people find wrapping Christmas and Hanukkah gifts to be too time-consuming with everything else going on, so put your artistic and creative talents to work by offering your gift wrapping services. You can set up a fee schedule for doing the wrapping using the customer’s supplies, but if you have a little money to buy some wraps and ribbons and tags, you have a better “product” to sell. You can even make custom wrapping paper and offer that at a premium price. Make a flyer and take copies to all of your neighbors and friends, and give them to school mates to take home.
No artistic talent? You could still sell a needed service wrapping the shipping containers for gifts with the approved papers, labels and securing tape. If you have a way to take packages to the Post Office or a shipper, that’s even better, but many companies pick up and you could offer to make the call to request this as part of your services.
An easy side business could be printing gift tags on heavy paper stock and decorating them for sale. All you need to do is to hole punch the cards to allow a ribbon attachment. Use a label template or a business card template to design custom tags for customers on your computer, and add extras like glitter or puff paints. If you want, you can use sturdy blank business card stock that is perforated and easy to work with. You can even offer magnets that come in thin sheets and will go right into your computer.

What is Kidstorming?

Kidstorming is a special way for Knoxville kids to share great ideas for making money or even raising it for good causes.
Kidstorming ideas are more creative than the old babysitting and lawn mowing and lemonade stands, and more fun (and more healthy!) than selling donuts or candy.
Kidstorming is Kid Business brainstorming. If you have a terrific twist on even the old standards, share that too! Maybe you do dog babysitting or sell organic lemonade or mow lawns and build compost heaps, whatever you do that is safe and really works. Get creative and see what can happen.
Really wonderful ideas will also be "green" ideas that help us recycle, conserve and help to keep our planet and our city healthy. Kidstormers are invited to give a thumbs up whenever you see a local business, school or group doing something great for the environment.
