Kidstorming: Kid's Cards for Fun and Profit

by Pat F.
(USA)

Wouldn't I look purrrrfect on a custom Christmas Card?

Wouldn't I look purrrrfect on a custom Christmas Card?

The holidays are here, and with the season comes greeting cards, gift tags and thank you notes.

What could be cooler than a custom made card or gift label? How about this: custom-made cards by your son or daughter!

If you have access to a computer and a printer, you can make greeting cards in a flash and sell them to friends, family, and neighbors. Of course, you can have fun using some of your great designs for your own lists, too.

Using Paint or other software, you can create cards from scratch and if you want you can add glitter or puff paint or anything else to make them even more special. Ribbon and lace and tinsel are all possibilities; you can use paint, stencils or stamps to decorate cards as well. The only rules being: let your child be creative and let her have fun!

Handmade greeting cards with lots of detail usually will sell for at least a dollar a card, or more.

Your investment won’t be much if you have art supplies: just some heavier paper that will run through your printer, and envelopes to fit your cards, but you can make those, too.

You can even sign up to print customized stamps right on the envelopes using stamps.com!
Be sure to charge for the postage and a little extra for your time, of course.

For after Christmas or Hanukkah, you can offer thank you cards to make that chore easier. Learn how to use Mail Merge and you can provide a customer with envelopes already addressed with a custom “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” stamp if they give you their mailing list.

All they have to do is write a little note and they are done. Your child's customers will be thrilled with the ease of this year's 'thank you' notes, and the receivers of the notes will love the special thanks as well.

Extra tip: Show your city pride and use pictures of Knoxville in your designs! Or use the logo for your favorite Vols team as a special accent for sports lovers in your life.

You don’t have to be another Van Gogh to design cards. You can find thousands of free cards online to download for customizing or just printing and selling or using. Here are some links to get you started:
