Highways and By-Ways Ministry Video

Highways and By-Ways Ministry is a Homeless Ministry here in Knoxville. The Ministry has been in operation since 1986 and is run by a man by the name of Bob Burger. He is most widely known as Preacher Bob.

Bob and his wife Mary have dedicated their lives to the homeless, the sick, and the lost. The Goal of this ministry is to see souls saved and lives changed.

My goal in producing this video was to show a different side of the homeless people and to introduce an amazing ministry that has changed thousands of lives.

I have to say thanks to God and everyone who took the time to comment on the video and our ministry.
My life would be lost without Bob and his beautiful wife, Mary. They are my inspiration and my strength. This Ministry has both changed and saved my life. I will continue to do all I can to bring hope and love to those in need. I love you all so much!

I think that all of the men and women who have helped with Preacher Bob's ministry and all of the other ministries that help the homeless are angels in disguise. My daddy, Lewis Brewer, was one of the homeless men who came to Preacher Bob's services and also services at other ministries (including Water Angel Ministries). He helped the other homeless people adapt to their new surroundings and taught them how to survive on the streets, among other things. I have already personally called and thanked each of these ministries that I'm aware of who helped my daddy, but I also want the world to know how great these people are. They are just selfless in their work for God. For those of you reading this who may have known my daddy, you all knew him on the streets as "Screwy Louie". To me, he will always be my daddy that called me his "Brandie Bell". My daddy was knocked off of a concrete structure by a man named George Oakes, and he died on April 2, 2008. I miss him dearly and am trying desperately to reach out and find some way that I could help some of the other people who are in the condition that my dad was in. I want them to know how important it is that they tell their family members (whether it be mother, father, son, daughter, etc) how much they care about them because they may never get another chance, especially living in the conditions they are living in.

The video was presented as man of hope, which was what John the Baptist was. It is time for all of America to remember that their are many that are hungry and tired among us and we must work toward taking care of them.

I met Bob,Mary and Katie Burger several years ago. My spirit was yearning for more than a traditonal church offered. God placed me with Preacher Bob and the Highways and By-Ways Ministry. The work God uses the ministry for is awesome. The growth God has given me is amazing. The volunteers and everyone involved in the ministry are servants that truely love the lord. Reaching out and seeing lives changed and souls saved and being transformed through God's love is what it is all about.

What this ministry is doing for the homeless is extraordinary and just what Jesus would do. Preacher Bob is a modern day prophet who the Lord has sent to help those who are sick and in need i.e. the homeless. Many days that Preacher Bob will do without thinking of himself. If any one in the city can help with this ministry, I can assure you that your faith will be rebuilt in that there are good and faithful servants of God left in this world. They are the servants of Highways and Byways Ministry. If only we could get more people to understand what a true blessing you will receive in just giving what our Lord and Savior has already blessed you with.

God will bless and lead the way for all those who are a part of helping others to know of his love! This video touched my heart and showed me apart of the world I personally can't believe our society as a whole can not or will not give a helping hand to aid them in their hard times. This ministry is a Godsend!!!! With the help of preacher Bob and others like him, these wayward souls will find God and all the peace he will give them. God bless Denise for putting this video together. God bless all the homeless!!!!!!We all are just one paycheck away from them!!!!

I have nothing but respect and high praise for Preacher Bob and the many others who participate in Hi-Ways and Bi-Ways ministry. These are people who truly believe in what Jesus said. "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick." These are people who are often forgot about in the hustle and bustle of society. I am so thankful for the ministry and the work it is doing. This ministry has been a blessing to me I am a volunteer who looks foward to going every week. I love these people and love Preacher Bob I feel for the people who are homeless and hope and pray that they can have a save place to lay their head every night. Bob tells the people who feel helpless and hopeless that God loves them. and i think that they leave the servce really feeling that and that is why they come back week after week. It is not only for the meal that fills their stomach but the love that fills their heart.

I have the wonderful privilege of knowing this tremendous man, and the great works his ministry continues to provide. Preacher Bob is the "real deal". A sincere, hard-working, humble servant of Jesus, faithfully going about his "Lord's business". On any given day, Preacher's Bob's loving, "no-frills", common-sense, approach to the struggles of the homeless can be seen going on somewhere in this city. Loving the unlovable, Preacher Bob, and those that labor alongside him, continue to provide "hands-on", heartfelt care to the hurting and needy. As a Christian nation fighting for freedom of people far away, we give little thought to what happens to the men (and women) who cannot cope when they come back home. Many of the faces are veterans needing our concern. Drink and drugs confuse them further. Do we turn to help them in every way possible, or do we turn away to not see the saddness, the disheveled looks, the hopelessness?
The song says "Father we will lead them home?"
Should we also say "Father, forgive us if we turn away while they are in our midst?"

"This is an emergency....."

Thank you to the two churches presented in this film and the many helpers shown also.

This is a wonderful website; it is very informative and gives anyone who visits it a chance to feel the very emotions that go into such a ministry. Preacher Bob has a wonderful ministry going, and everyone needs to know about it. He and his wife have devoted their entire lives to this ministry, and they deserve this recognition because it will bring more help to thier program. It seems to be an insurmountable project, but Preacher Bob and Mary make it real, one person at a time.

I have had the priviage of meeting Preacher Bob through Denise Doster and with them, had the opportunity to accompany them visiting the homless people of Knoxville. Their unselfish dedication is overwhelming. Precher Bob spends his everyday life reaching out to these people and Denise Doster has three (3) young boys, a great husband,and hold down a full time job in the medical industry. AND, still finds time to devote to this ministry creating this video.

The story of this ministry comes right out of the word of God. It tells you to love your neighbor as you love yourself and this is what I dedicated my life too. You can't tell a hungry person about Jesus....you have to meet there needs and this is what I do. Give God the glory and the honor of all. This is a great video demonstrating the pungent reality of the dark side of our world; a dark side that many of us easily ignore. While the pictures are of people in the Knoxville area, it is unfortunate that the same faces can be seen in Wichita, Kansas City, Denver, L.A, .

The truth is that the homeless and sick can be simply overlooked by those of us who are more fortunate. Our daily lives consume us in a way that we can ignore the homeless, rather than to take the time to consider how to provide the means to help others who are less fortunate.

This is an overwhelming task for just a few to fix. I do believe that it can be done, however the homeless needs all of us to help.

There are some criticisms/suggestions of the video in other posts. While some may argue the technical merits of the video, it is important to realize the impetus for the production is to get the word out about the homeless and the mission of this church.

Your message is there, Denise. It has been received. You did a great job of putting this together. Your compassion to help others is realized. You are one of the many soldiers to help fight this battle. Please do not lose sight of your love and conviction to bring the topic of the homeless to the attention of others. But do pace yourself. A marathon cannot be won in the first couple of minutes.

All of the comments on the length and the suggestion for an oral story line can be put into the next version. Just as for those on the street, this production is a continual growth process.

May the grace of God continue to be with this church and their mission.

Preacher Bob is best vessel God is using to reach the Homeless and to guide other Christians to use their talents by service to others. The greatest difference I see in Preacher Bob and lots of others is that everything Preacher Bob does comes from the HEART......God wants that kind of service.....not for glory for ourselves, but glory for Him.....and Preacher Bob gives the Glory only to God.....

This video makes me cry tears of happiness and joy each and every time i watch it. This ministry has turned my life around and made me become aware of how truly blessed i am. When I joined this ministry over 2 years ago, i was afraid of what "God had put me into", but now, i am so happy that God took me out of my comfort zone and brought me into the real world. Some of these "street people" have become my friends. Some of these former homeless have become my confidants and I there support shoulder. Preacher Bob has become my extended DAD because I know i can talk to him about anything and he doesn't judge me, only loves me and guides me. Ms. Mary is my friend, my sister, my MOM figure and my shopping buddy. She also listens to all I have to say and I can trust her with my life. I have met people that i ordinarly wouldn't thought to have been so kind. Yes, these are homeless or those who are less fortunate. Again, this man called Jesus is a true lover of all peoples - - no matter what you look like, dress like. I want to be more of a woman of God and have a walk more like Jesus... unconditional love for all.

I just watched the video for the 20th time and it's as touching now as it was the first time I watched it. God Bless Preacher Bob, Mary and all of you that volunteer. You see, I had the pleasure of having known Preacher Bob longer than any of you and I knew when God spoke to him and saw the immediate change; only GOD & Jesus Christ can transform each of us when the time comes. I salute each of you and love you for what you do. Linda and I pray for all of you weekly and so do my children and grandchildren. Today, Linda was diagnosed w/bad case of the FLU so please remember her in prayer; she'll be ok in a few days; we have strong faith. Lastly, I'd put off coming to Knoxville to attend the Thursday nite meeting for several years until last October when I felt the Lord's hand guiding me and I called Preacher Bob and he told me the weather was going to be pretty bad; I said, "Preacher Bob, I'm coming!" I rode my motorcycle up Highway #441 all the way and was able to spend two nights w/Preacher Bob and Miss Mary(what a Lady!!) I also rec'd. a wonderful blessing from being able to attend the Thursday nite service. That Friday AM I returned home via the I-State and never got wet; going or coming!! Isn't the Lord great? Finally, as Paul Harvey would say, "Now, the rest of the story!!" On October 23rd, 2007 I suffered a debilitating stroke and spent 6days in the hospital. Again, the Lord knew why he'd sent me when he did and he healed me and I have no residual effects whatsoever!! Praise the Lord. I am humbly, your beloved friend in Jesus Christ, B. This video shows how Knoxville has time for its people in their time of need. Unlike other bigger cities who tend to be over come or do not care. This video show how are area is different.
I believe instead of traveling half way around the world tending to others, we need to start in our back yard first.

There's nothing more basic to the needs of man than those of food and shelter.

As this excellent video by Denise Doster points out, there are many people among us in Knoxville who live day to day with no guarantee of either.

Every year since 1986, Preacher Bob and his Highways and By-Ways Ministry have served thousands of Knoxville's homeless with food and water, warm clothes and blankets, medical supplies, shelter, hope and love.

They do it without grants or a huge staff. Just Preacher Bob and a small group of volunteers.

Thanks, Denise, for the excellent video about this incredibly important and unique Knoxville mission!

Really great photo montage. Nice music, too. A cool song for the context.

I think you can make this piece better if you change it to help viewers connect with this ministry.

P. Bob is a very passionate and effective spokesman, and I'm surprised that he's not on this video telling me about what his ministry does and how I can support it.

I'd use some actual video of him talking, or at least let him do some voiceover work.

The piece is also very long. Much too long for an effective web-based video of this kind. I think you need to shoot for 3 to 4 minutes, max.

And make it help me connect!

Also, for what it's worth, the present website seems fine to me. It's really pretty good. I am not sure why you need to overhaul it. I think you could just tweak a few things and make it better.
