Business for Kids: Flower Selling
by Noelle
(Wisconsin (USA))
When I was younger I had a unique situation, in which my father grew and sold flowers, then gave me the extras to sell on the street corner.
I do not think many children are in this situation, but, given the willingness to do a bit of gardening, selling flowers can be a fun and profitable business venture.
Note that people are much more likely to buy several flowers at one time, than several glasses of lemonade. I sold flowers generally at the price of 50 cents per flower (stem is the actual term I used, since each stem can have more than one flower on it, and I did not charge for additional flowers on each stem).
It was not uncommon for people to buy 10 or 20 flowers at one time, which gave me a profit of five to ten dollars in a matter of minutes, rather than the 25 cents one would usually receive for a person purchasing one glass of lemonade.
While making a larger profit is a nice bonus to certain businesses, finding something that is fun for you is the most important element - for children, and adults.
If gardening and selling flowers is not for you, find something else that you would enjoy more.
