A Holiday Message to Knoxville from Jodie Manross

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I had a fun Halloween (baked pumpkin pie, watched the Charlie Brown special, had my annual Halloween party) and am enjoying my first autumn in New York City.

News: I am excited to be recording with some amazing musicians right now in New York City. In September, I got to perform a song I wrote about Darfur at the 24 For Darfur Rally at the United Nations. Now, I am recording this song. It's being produced by Sammy Merendino, who is a great producer and Cyndi Lauper's drummer. Sammy Merendino has performed on albums for artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, Ziggy Marley, Anita Baker, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Dar Williams, Joan Biaz, Carly Simon, Loundon Wainwright III and Roberta Flack. Andrew Carillo, Joan Osborn's guitarist, recorded guitar. Graham Maby who has played bass for Natalie Merchant, Joe Jackson, Dar Willams and They Might Be Giants recorded the bass parts. Last, Rob Hyman (Grammy-nominated, founding member of The Hooters and co-writer of "Time After Time" with Cyndi Lauper) played keyboard on the song. AND, Darden Smith, the Austin singer-songwriter, is putting down back-up vocals on the song.

Can you imagine how excited I am?! I am so honored to be working with these guys. They will also be on the full album that we will record beginning next year.

Last, I'll be playing a special Knoxville, Tennessee show on Sat, Nov. 24 with Casey Jones, who will be in town from Denmark. We'll be at Preservation Pub and be joined by special guests including Nathan Barrett on percussion. Can't wait!

In New York City, I am playing a last-minute show at a very cool Tiki Bar (I have actually always wanted to play a Tiki bar) in the East Village next Wed., Nov. 14 at 10pm. Then at the end of the month, I am collaborating with Mark Lamb Dance and performing in Brooklyn in three dance performances. Hope you can come out to the shows!

Once the Darfur song is ready, I will be posting it as a single on digital download sites, such as itunes. I'll keep you posted. And thanks again for all your love and support.
