A Grab Bag of Knoxville Books: Gifts to Others or Yourself

Comfort food often means local favorites, and these books specialize in Tennessee cuisine and recipes even closer to home. They make great gifts for local cooks, and nice reminders of home from those forced to live outside of Knoxville.

Quail Ridge Press has a series of over 30 “Best Of” cookbooks for different states, and “Best of the Best from Tennessee: Selected Recipes from Tennessee's Favorite Cookbooks” is our home state’s entry. Selected from dozens of regional cookbooks, this 288 page book has recipes for such yummy foods as ham and “red eye” gravy, cheese grits with garlic, apple pie, cornbread with cracklings and more. Look for ISBN-10: 0937552208, ISBN-13: 978-0937552209 on line or in your local bookstore.

Get even closer to real Knoxville cooking and eating with the three fine local sourced Junior League Cookbooks. Purchasing these also benefits the charitable work of our Knoxville Junior League so that you can feel twice as good about their purchase!

The books include:

“Dining in the Smoky Mountain Mist” was published in 1995, and features seasonal themed recipes in a 254 hardcover edition with a special protective jacket.
“Tennessee Tables” was first published in 1982 to commemorate the World’s Fair held in Knoxville. This is a 279 page spiral bound hardcover created by Junior Leaguers and select friends.

Last but not least is the volume that started it all here, “The Pear Tree” from 1977. This is soft bound and has been such a perennial favorite it is now in its seventh printing!

These great books are available at the Junior League headquarters or can be ordered online from the website. They range from just $10 to $20 for a wonderful gift that gives back to the community.
